UK Outlines Vision for Frictionless Trade After Brexit
The government has finally published its detailed proposals for the future trading relationship between the UK and the European Union.
The UK government has set out plans for a “frictionless” post-Brexit trading system aimed at minimising disruption at borders and maintaining efficient movement of goods between the UK and EU. The proposals focused on using technology, trusted trader schemes and streamlined customs arrangements to reduce delays for businesses and supply chains.
The strategy highlighted the importance of maintaining strong logistics infrastructure and cross-border trade efficiency, particularly for industries reliant on just-in-time delivery models such as manufacturing, retail and food distribution. Industry leaders welcomed efforts to avoid border congestion but also raised concerns around implementation complexity and the potential administrative burden for businesses adapting to new customs procedures.
The government’s proposals reflected growing pressure on the logistics sector to prepare for changing trade regulations while ensuring supply chain continuity. Experts noted that investment in digital customs systems, warehousing and transport infrastructure would be essential to support long-term trade resilience following Brexit.
