Amazon has announced changes to its warehouse storage policies that will penalise third-party sellers who keep inventory in its fulfilment centres for extended periods. The move is part of the company’s wider effort to improve warehouse efficiency and free up space as demand for fulfilment services continues to grow.

Under the updated policy, sellers storing products for longer than six months will face additional monthly fees, with higher charges applied to inventory held for over a year. Amazon said the changes are designed to encourage faster stock turnover and improve the availability of warehouse space for high-performing products.

The decision reflects the increasing pressure on logistics operators and e-commerce platforms to optimise distribution networks while managing rising inventory volumes. For online retailers using Amazon’s fulfilment services, the policy change highlights the importance of stronger inventory planning, forecasting and supply chain management to avoid unnecessary storage costs.
